Dental Crowns and Bridges
At Brunswick Dental Group, we believe that everyone deserves a beautiful smile. You should be able to laugh, speak, and chew without feeling self-conscious. When teeth are missing or get damaged, it can affect your daily life. Our tooth crown and tooth bridge treatment can bring your mouth back to its normal and natural look and function.
Dental crowns and bridges provide excellent support to the remaining teeth and are great restorative dental prosthetics. They will give you a natural and confident smile.
Crowns
Crowns are made from high quality, natural looking porcelain to improve your smile and blend naturally with your own teeth. Crowns are designed to strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure, improve the tooth’s overall appearance as well as restore former strength, function and natural appearance. Placed over prepared front or back teeth much like a cap, crowns are widely used to protect teeth that have undergone root-canal treatment.
Bridges
Bridges replace singular or multiple missing teeth. Bridges consist of an artificial tooth that is firmly anchored to the natural tooth on each side of the gap. Importantly bridges support the surrounding teeth by preventing moving or shifting within the mouth. Restoring a missing tooth with a bridge prevents teeth from shifting, maintains the natural bite and improves chewing ability. The bridges are custom-made in a laboratory and are fitted for each patient in conformation with the patient’s bite, and the size and length of the natural teeth.
The Process Involved
For these treatments, the patient is required to undertake two appointments. One is to prepare the tooth or teeth for treatment and the other is to fit the crown or bridge. Occasionally a root-canal treatment (RCT) and post may be required if the nerve within the tooth has died or been removed.
During the first appointment a thin layer of enamel is removed from all surfaces of the tooth. From here, impressions are taken to record exactly how you bite together so that we can ensure your new tooth will be properly fitted. We will place a temporary crown over the prepared tooth for a period of approximately two weeks so that the laboratory can make the new crown.
During the second appointment, the temporary crown will be gently removed your new crown will be tried on. The crown will be checked for fit, size, shape and colour before it is permanently cemented to your tooth. Here we can decide whether adjustments are needed or we can proceed with the process of cementation. The cementation process involves using cement that bonds to your tooth and crown.
Benefits of Crowns and Bridges
They look completely natural. A third person will not be able to tell whether you have had any dental work done. The crowns and bridges prepared at Brunswick Dental Group mimic natural teeth to that extent.
Porcelain is very durable, so your crowns and bridges will last very long. Just take care of them regularly and visit your dentist for the routine checkups and you should be able to get the most out of them.
You will be able to restore the complete functionality of your full set of teeth.
With a brighter, whiter smile, you will have more confidence in facing the world.
