Invisalign is designed to be invisible. Your dental specialist will use digital scans to create customized aligner trays that you can wear over your teeth. The trays are made of BPA free clear plastic and can be comfortably worn over the teeth. Over time, they slowly move the teeth to the correct position. Your dentist will decide which teeth will have to move first. The target alignment is charted and then the procedure is initiated. You will have to come in for regular checkups as you wear the aligners. During the checkup, the dentist will assess the progress and then readjust the aligners till the final target alignment is achieved. The time required to complete the procedure will also depend on how many teeth need to move to correct the smile for the person. The more crooked the teeth, the more time it will take to bring about the desired result. The general duration for treatment is between one to two years.

The biggest advantage of using Invisalign is that you can move your crooked teeth to the correct position without having to wear ugly metal braces. You also do not have to undergo procedures like crowns or bridges which while effective, can be a little invasive. Being clear or invisible, people who wear Invisalign do not feel awkward or conscious of the fact that they are using braces. They can continue to mingle with others and nobody would even know that they are using aligners. Invisalign is not painful at all, but since they are used to moving teeth, they will feel a bit tight. Taking care of Invisalign aligners is also very easy. They must be worn every day, but should be removed for cleaning or when indulging in sports. You can check with your specialist to find out which time is beneficial for wearing them according to your work/sports schedule during the week. If you are using invisible aligners, then you need not make drastic changes in your diet as you would have to if you were using braces. Just continue with your regular diet. Cleaning the aligners is also easy – simply brush them gently to get rid of food particles. Before brushing or flossing your teeth, you must remember to remove these invisible braces.
